AQUADIVE NOS Model 77

The NOS Model 77 is like having a vintage dive watch you can actually get wet! Built from remaining stock of cases made in 1977, and utilizing either new ETA, or serviced vintage A. Schild Swiss movements, wearing one of these retro divers is like going back in time.

Description

AQUADIVE NOS Model 77

NOS” stands for “New Old Stock” and everything about the Model 77 lives up to that. We found a stash of steel cases from the Aquadive Maritime, a watch sold by us in 1977. We’ve updated the gaskets, dial and crystal to ensure these old watches could be ready for wet work while retaining as much of their vintage charm as possible. There’s no reason to baby this watch, which is rated for 200 meters of water resistance. A helium release valve is set on the case flank at 2:00, in case your adventures involve time in a helium-saturated diving system.

Despite its vintage roots, the NOS Model 77 is big enough to suit contemporary tastes. The stainless steel case is 41 millimeters in diameter, with a versatile end to end dimension of 48 millimeters. The black steel bezel is topped by a fitting black aluminum ring fully marked for timing up to an hourlong dive or anything else.

We offer the NOS Model 77 with a choice of two movements: a 1970s-era A. Schild calibre 1902, or a moden ETA 2836. Both are selfiwinding, though the Schild beats at a slower rate and does not offer a quickset date function, to suit those looking for a true vintage feel.

True to its era, we’ve mounted a “porthole” style rubber strap on the Model 77, just as it would have been back in the ‘70s.

I received my NOS Model 77 yesterday, and I have to say… this timepiece is really something else! Incredible wrist presence, flawless fit & finish (as always with Aquadive) and it’s hard to believe that the case is NOS from the ‘70’s… mine is absolutely pristine. It has tons of that ‘70’s vibe, however, with a very unique look because of the combo PVD and sunburst SS case finish, PVD vintage style bezel and the hooded lugs. Just unbelievably cool! I will say that this is probably not the watch to choose if you like to “fly under the radar!” It’s certainly not small (41mm x 48mm) and sits quite tall due to the thick original caseback… it will definitely get noticed! Aquadive thoughtfully included the new slimmer profile caseback (as well as two NATO straps) with my order, but I’m going to stick with the original caseback and vintage-style rubber strap, as I love the prominent look of it, and want to preserve it’s vintage character. I ordered my watch with the ETA 2836 movement so I’m expecting it will keep great time and be bulletproof. So far, after 24 hours it’s 3 sec. Pretty good for a “workhorse” movement.

As you can probably tell… I absolutely love it! It is just a classic “tool” watch. Home run, Aquadive!!!
