ISOfrane® Buckles Explained: RS, IN, and DLC

The ISOfrane® RS forged stainless-steel buckle with a screw pin

Every genuine ISOfrane® strap comes complete with a buckle and keepers, and you can choose the buckle that suits your watch and your taste. There are three: the forged RS, the stamped IN, and a DLC-coated version. Here is what sets them apart.

The RS buckle

The RS buckle is forged and hand-finished from solid stainless steel, with a screw pin. Its name reflects its design and purpose: it resembles the original buckle found on ISOfrane® straps of the 1960s. Beyond looks, the RS construction adds a security feature that helps hold the strap in place even if it comes loose from the keepers, a reassuring detail for diving.

The IN buckle

The IN buckle is stamped and bead-blasted stainless steel. It is a cleaner, more understated execution, lighter and simpler than the forged RS while keeping the same secure fit. If you prefer a low-key look, the IN is the one to choose.

The DLC option

DLC stands for diamond-like carbon, an extremely hard coating applied over the forged RS buckle. It produces a deep, matte-black finish that resists scratches far better than untreated steel, and pairs naturally with darker straps and blacked-out watches. Note that DLC is offered on the RS buckle only; there is no DLC version of the IN.

Which should you choose?

Pick the RS for the most faithful vintage look and its added security, the IN for a lighter and simpler profile, and the DLC when you want a hard, matte-black finish. All three secure the same genuine ISOfrane® strap.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the RS and IN buckles?

What is a DLC buckle?

DLC stands for diamond-like carbon, a hard coating applied to the forged RS buckle. It gives a deep matte-black finish that is highly scratch resistant. A DLC version of the IN buckle is not offered.

Which buckle is the most secure?

The RS buckle includes a security feature that helps hold the strap in place even if it works loose from the keepers, reflecting its dive heritage.

Does the strap come with a buckle?

Yes. Every ISOfrane® strap ships complete with its buckle and keepers. Spare keepers and buckles are available separately in the ISOfrane® spare parts category.
